Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to questions we encounter again and again in the course of our work.
What does “neural communication” mean?
Neural communication is our serverless system architecture: there is no central control unit. All components communicate directly with one another and form a distributed intelligence. This makes systems fail-safe and scalable at will. It was applied for a patent as early as 2000. Learn more →
What is ellan:RTOS?
ellan:RTOS is our own high-security real-time operating system. It has been continuously maintained since 1990, is fully modular in design and runs on the most diverse hardware platforms (including ARM Cortex, PIC, AVR, Xtensa). Learn more →
How can I use ellan:RTOS?
There are several models: per-unit licensing, license packages and flat-rate licenses, transfer of the source code for your own further development, and outright purchase including a key generator. A key file is supplied with every license. Learn more →
Do you also develop assemblies without a processor?
Yes. In addition to processor-based systems, we also develop assemblies using pure logic and discrete components that manage entirely without processor support.
Do you still support ISDN?
Yes. We support the protocols for S0, UK0, UP0 and S2M, each in NT and TE versions. ISDN UP0 is particularly suitable for voice transmission over long cable runs.
How far can communication reach over existing cables?
Over ISDN UP0, ranges of up to 4 km are possible on ordinary two-wire telephone cables (including power supply). Single-Pair Ethernet (IEEE 802.3cg) reaches 10 Mbit/s over up to 1,500 m.
Do you also handle manufacturing and series production?
Yes. Together with our strong partner Compudata we cover the entire production process — including enclosure development, manufacturing and logistics. Alternatively, the customer can take over individual areas themselves. We also accompany EMC and CE approvals.
How do you secure door communication?
Through BSI-compliant encryption, hardware-based access controls, physical network separation via security couplers (Elink751), rolling codes and local authentication — including for mobile access. Access to configuration pages is via HTTPS with a CA certificate. Learn more →
Do you work with third-party systems (e.g. SIP)?
Yes. Our systems support SIP (including SIPS), IAX2 and H.323 as well as neural communication. Gateways connect to analog and ISDN technology; integration into existing SIP telephone systems is possible without a gateway.
Where is the company located?
EDC HOFFMEISTER GmbH (Elink Development Company) is based in Plettenberg in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. We have been developing since 1981; the trademark “ELINK” has been used for over 30 years. Learn more →
